Celebrity sightings in and around Aspen

ASPEN — Country-pop singer LeAnn Rimes burst onto the national music scene in 1996 with the Patsy Cline-esque torch song “Blue,” but this week she's reportedly blue for a different reason.

Vacationing in Aspen with actor-husband Eddie Cibrian and his two sons, Rimes hurt her tailbone Tuesday while snowboarding, according to a Wednesday report on the celebrity gossip website Entertainment News Examiner.

And like many others who have suffered bumps, cuts and bruises on Aspen-area slopes over the past few weeks, the girl-next-door hottie blamed it on the poor snow conditions and lack of fresh powder.

“Tailbone hurts from falling on a stump that tripped up my board 'cause THERE'S NOT ENOUGH SNOW,” Rimes tweeted to her fans.

The report doesn't mention which mountain she was attempting to ride. Perhaps it would have been smarter for Rimes and her new family — she left her husband of seven years in the summer of 2009 amid an affair with Cibrian that culminated with their marriage in April — to stay in the warm climes of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where they spent the days before Christmas.

Indeed, the gossip sites have been busy over the holidays with news of celebrity sightings in Aspen. The usual suspects are hitting the slopes and making their way through the tony shops downtown.

A Monday story in the Huffington Post makes mention of Mariah Carey, a common sight during Aspen winters, sporting a slimmer figure in a one-piece, red-and-black Spandex suit last weekend. The fashion-challenged singer reportedly added a puffy vest to the ensemble.

The pop diva gave birth to twins in April and recently told ABC News that she's since dropped 30 pounds through her commitment to the Jenny Craig weight-loss system and media pressure to shed the weight. In November, Carey announced she would serve as a Jenny Craig spokeswoman, an title that has been held in the past by the likes of Monica Lewinsky and Queen Latifah.

Photographs of Carey and husband Nick Cannon strolling through downtown Aspen are ubiquitous on the Web, with Cannon giving the appearance of a downvalley bank robber, given the ski mask pulled over his face.

Also, The Daily Mail reported Wednesday that German supermodel Heidi Klum, husband-singer Seal and their three kids spent a fair amount of time on Buttermilk Mountain earlier this week. Wearing colorful attire, they showed how happy they are, cuddling with one another on the slopes and posing for photos before taking a snowmobile ride down to the base of the mountain and calling it a day.

“Her covered-up look was a far cry from the racy attire a few days ago. She joined fellow model Imogen Thomas to flash the flesh as a sexy Santa last week,” the British tabloid reported.

Others who have been spotted shopping or walking in the commercial core, according to the gossip rags, include part-time Old Snowmass resident Goldie Hawn (along with husband Kurt Russell). Their friends, actress Melanie Griffith and actor Antonio Banderas, also were out and about, in addition to Hawn's daughter Kate Hudson and her fiancé Matt Bellamy, lead singer for alt-rock band Muse.

Spoiled, wealthy and talentless, the Hilton sisters — Paris and Nicky — also were seen around town, according to My Daily UK, an AOL fashion and celebrity news site. (We're not sure anyone cares, though.)

And lastly, part-time Aspenite Jack Nicholson was sighted with his daughter Lorraine. We're not gonna poke fun at Jack, though, because he's cool.
